AMSTERDAM CITYSCAPE 1:5000 (BACK CATALOGUE)
12in high, 12in wide, 2in deep & 10lb approximately.
Amsterdam has its origins in the 12th century when locals built a dam over the river Amstel leading to the village being named "Aemstelredamme". In the Middle Ages, Amsterdam was surrounded by a moat, called the Singel, which now forms the innermost ring in the city, and makes the city centre a horseshoe shape. The canal system was heavily developed in the early 17th century, considered the city's Golden Age, to accommodate large scale immigration. Four concentric half-circles of canals with their ends emerging at the IJ bay were constructed. Amsterdam is now home to more than one hundred kilometres of canals. It is thought that the considerations of the layout were purely practical and defensive rather than ornamental. The layout of the inner city canal ring was inscribed on the World Heritage List by Unesco in 2010.
This 3d map of Amsterdam, at a scale of 1:5000, is centred on the Royal Palace and includes the Singel, Prinsengracht, Herengracht and Keizersgracht. It is a single plaster tile measuring 30x30cm encapsulated in a perspex frame. The model can wall hang or be displayed on a desk or table top.

PARIS ARC DE TRIOMPHE CITYSCAPE 1:5000 (BACK CATALOGUE)
12in high, 12in wide, 2in deep & 10lb approximately.
During the Middle Ages Paris was the largest city in Europe. It was, and still is, a religious, commercial, cultural and intellectual centre. However, by the start of the 18th century, though it could be said to have some beautiful buildings, it was not a beautiful city. Napoleon III engaged Georges-Eugène Haussmann in 1852 to unify the city and to make it more beautiful. The street plan and distinctive appearance of the centre of Paris today is largely the result of Haussmann's renovation. The brilliance of Haussmann’s vision is best seen at Place Charles de Gaulle, the location of the Arc de Triomphe, with 12 boulevards branching out into the city in a radial pattern.
This 3d map of Paris, at a scale of 1:5000, is centred on the Arc de Triomphe. It is a single plaster tile measuring 30x30cm encapsulated in a perspex frame. The model can wall hang or be displayed on a desk or table top.
BERLIN CITYSCAPE 1:5000 (BACK CATALOGUE)
12in high, 12in wide, 2in deep & 10lb approximately.
Berlin developed from the early 13th century on the banks of the river Spree. It became the capital of the princes of Brandenburg and expanded as their influence in Europe grew. The city gained a Baroque appearance with broad avenues, such as Wilhelmstrasse and Friedrichstrasse, handsome squares and grand buildings. The destruction during WWII was followed by the construction of modern apartment and office buildings. There has been much effort to blend old and new as can be seen in the restored Reichstag building. This and the surrounding area have become the seat of national government. Berlin's many buildings representing the styles of the Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, Grunderjahre (1871-90), and the Wilhelminian era, of Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, postwar Modernism, and Postmodernism, and of the periods of socialist state architecture make the city a rich source for the study of 18th- to 20th-century architecture. Berlin is surprisingly green with many trees lining the streets, the Tiergarten park just west of the Brandenburg Gate and the river Spree running through the centre of the city.
This 3d map of Berlin, at a scale of 1:5000, is centred on the intersection of the River Spree and Friedrichstrasse. It is a single plaster tile measuring 30x30cm encapsulated in a perspex frame. The model can wall hang or be displayed on a desk or table top.

VENICE CITYSCAPE 1:5000 (BACK CATALOGUE)
12in high, 12in wide, 2in deep & 10lb approximately.
Venice is an Italian city situated on a group of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who lived in the area in 10th century. It is thought to have been founded by refugees from the countryside fleeing Germanic and Hun invasions. Its strategic position at the head of the Adriatic sea helped in its developing into a city state and a major naval and commercial power. It was an important centre of commerce and art from the 13th to the 17th centuries. By the late 13th century, Venice was the most prosperous city in all of Europe. During the 18th century, Venice became perhaps the most elegant and refined city in Europe, greatly influencing art, architecture and literature.
The buildings of Venice are constructed on closely spaced wooden piles. Most of these piles are still intact after centuries of submersion. The foundations rest on plates of limestone placed on top of the piles, and buildings of brick or stone sit above these footings. The piles penetrate a softer layer of sand and mud until they reach a much harder layer of compressed clay. During the 20th century, when many artesian wells were sunk into the periphery of the lagoon to draw water for local industry, Venice began to subside. It was realised that extraction of water from the aquifer was the cause. The sinking has slowed markedly since artesian wells were banned in the 1960s.
It is an extremely beautiful city with setting, architecture and art all contributing. The lagoon, that stretches along the shoreline, and parts of the city are listed as a World Heritage Site. Venice has a rich and diverse architectural style, the most famous of which is the Gothic style. Venetian Gothic architecture is a term given to a Venetian building style combining use of the Gothic lancet arch with Byzantine and Ottoman influences. The style originated in 14th-century Venice, where the confluence of Byzantine style from Constantinople met Arab influence from Moorish Spain.
This 3d map of Venice, at a scale of 1:5000, is centred on the Canal Grande. It is a single plaster tile measuring 30x30cm encapsulated in a perspex frame. The model can wall hang or be displayed on a desk or table top.
ROME 'BLUE RIVER' CITYSCAPE 1:5000 (BACK CATALOGUE)
12in high, 12in wide, 2in deep & 6.5lb approximately.
Rome grew from pastoral settlements on the south side of the Tiber where it forms a Z-shaped curve that contains an island where the river can be forded. Because of the river and the ford, Rome was at a crossroads of traffic following the river valley and of traders traveling north and south on the west side of the peninsula. The population grew to an estimated 310,000 people by the 3rd century BC. Rome gained dominance over the Mediterranean and the Roman Empire was established under Octavian in 27 BC. The city of Rome now surpassed a population of one million. After the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, Rome entered a long period of decline. During the medieval period, with the associated lack of construction activity, assured the survival of very significant ancient Roman material remains in the centre of the city. Rome was once the world's main epicentre of classical architecture, developing new forms such as the arch, the dome and the vault. Later the city became one of the main centres of Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Rome's cityscape is also widely Neoclassical and Fascist in style.
This 3d map of Rome, at a scale of 1:5000, is centred on the area just east of the Z-shaped curve in the Tiber. It is a single plaster tile measuring 30x30cm encapsulated in a perspex frame. The model can wall hang or be displayed on a desk or table top.
